GCAC Equity Transformation

Educate and train our community on elimination and prevention of racial, sexual and gender-based bias and misconduct in an effort to promote a safe and supportive environment for all members to work, learn, and thrive. Provide and support a sustainable structure to attract and retain a diverse workforce, eliminate such  bias in  HRT, and ensure access and upward mobility for both management and staff in the workplace.

WHAT IS DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION (DEI)?

DEI stands for diversity, equity and inclusion. Diversity is the presence of differences within a given setting. Equity is the process of ensuring that processes and programs are impartial, fair and provide equal possible outcomes for every individual. Inclusion is the practice of ensuring that people feel a sense of belonging in the workplace.

Garrett on Anti Racist/Gender Equity Training

GCAC does not start from the view that the drive from DEI-B is simply to address workplace discrimination as if racism were some oddity, some aberration that arose from some nebulous moment in history that requires correction.

The importance and participation in the DEI-B is to see this training as part of a movement of people and society driven by the need to expose and address white supremacy and its variety of racist progeny eg.: (institutional, systemic racism, and individualized racial bias) and its systems of global domination linked to profit driven (capitalist) economies.

The GCAC has as its intentional goal to address racism and gender bias in the workplace by engaging management and staff in training, education, and modes of action, to break the normalization of designating  POC and gender non-conforming folks as “other.”

This work seeks to be a component of the ongoing struggle to transform the workplace and civil society from one that supports and reifies white supremacy to on that reconciles all people as one capable of reconciliation and cooperative advancement.
